7. Foods from north to south
One of the best things about Italy has to be its unique and delicious cuisine. From north to south, there are many different dishes and delicacies to be found on restaurant menus. Yes, the pizza really is out of this world and certainly the most the country’s best-known food Although you can try it in various parts of Italy (and you certainly will not be disappointed), the region that has most mastered the art of preparing it is Campania, in southern Italy, and specifically, Naples. But Italy is also home to many other well-known recipes and ingredients that have spread throughout the world. Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, for example, is a common ingredient in many Italian dishes and can be found in several other countries. It is known as the “king of cheeses” and is considered to be one of the best in the world. It is named after the regions where it is produced, the provinces of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna and Mantua. If you visit any of these regions, ordering a cheese platter is a must! Mozzarella, also well-known around the globe, originates essentially in the Italian region of Campania. But further north, there are also many other dishes that will make your mouth water. Risotto, for example, is a typical dish from the northern region, from Lombardy, known as the “land of risotto”. In the city of Genoa, in Liguria, one of the delicacies capable of stealing any foodie’s heart is pesto, the famous Italian green sauce traditionally made with basil leaves, pine nuts, garlic, salt, grated Parmesan or pecorino cheese, extra virgin olive oil and black pepper. On the Italian coast, due to the country’s proximity to the sea, there is also no shortage of seafood and fresh fish on restaurant menus. In the Puglia region, in the south, with its long coastline, it is imperative to try the many and tasty dishes of fish, octopus and seafood. And let us not forget the islands! If you consider yourself a sugar addict, you must try the typical Sicilian sweet, the cannolo, made of a tube-shaped fried sweet dough filled with ricotta cream. And, of course, we must not forget the delicious Italian pasta, which can be prepared in many different ways and with various ingredients! Tagliatelle al Ragu alla Bolognese, originating from Bologna, Cacio e Pepe and the famous Carbonara are just some of the most famous and much-loved examples.
